And while on the subject of Dubai...

Apparantly women in Dubai are now able to divorce their husbands in Sharia courts. But, did you know...
... One new rule mandates that the mentally ill, lepers and the impotent cannot get married. (my emphasis)

So how do they test whether someone is impotent or not before they can be married?! Do Sharia court judges do a test on budding fiances? Do they take them to one of the hotels renowned for women of the night? And why on earth have the stupid rule in the first place?

I bet there's a few Emirati wives who wish their husbands were impotent!

No, I don't really HATE Kuwait. I think you miss the point. Someone, anyone, can highlight the issues, the weird or stupid things in any society, or just plain crap... OK, so I don't view the world through rose-tinted glasses. Unfortunately, not a lot about Kuwait or the Gulf is understood by Westerners who have never been here and seen what it is like for themselves. Yeah, they may also be appalled at the human rights abuses. If I was living in China, or Zimbabwe, or any other place, I'd highlight the human rights abuses there too. Yeah, maybe it does sound like a crusade. But when the official media glosses over the problems and prints such a lot of garbage, then I feel compelled to comment.
I don't hate Kuwaitis (I might hate my job, but I haven't commented on that!).
I don't think Salman Rushdie hates 'your' culture either. I think he is only applying his intellect and highlighting the issues... Does this mean you agree with the Ayatollah's fatwa? Suppressing the freedom to think... is that what you're promulgating? (reminds me of work again, but I'm not going to go there!)
